welcome to NORS.

So, how does this work?

Once connected to the NORS line you will be greeted by a real person. That person will ask you to provide a code.

NORS is an anonymous service so your code will be the first two initials of your first name, the first two initials of your last name and the last two digits of your year of birth.

example: a jane doe born in 1987 would be —-> JADO87

You will use this code each time you interact with NORS services or website.

You will co-create your safety plan with your NORS operator.

Safety plans can include a community response (someone you trust nearby with Naloxone) or an EMS dispatch in an adverse event while you are using drugs.

your operator will ask you which substances you are using, how much and your route of administration. This enables them to be able to react in a timely manner incase of overdose.

your operator will stay with you for an average of 20 - 35 minutes to be sure you are not having an adverse reaction to your substances.

your operator will destroy any personal information you have provided to ensure your safety such as your address ( for an EMS dispatch) or your phone number ( for a call back if you are using texting services).

The NORS service is confidential and anonymous

we will never provide information to an outside agency or the police. We do not have the information to give.

Will you try to make me get ‘clean’?

You are not dirty. We encourage you to stay connected with us while you are using. The drug supply is messy and dangerous, our only goal is to keep you alive while you are using drugs.

What if I want to stop using?

NORS will support you. We have many callers that use NORS as a touch base as they are changing their relationships with their substance use. Our staff will help you to find resources in your area.

Do I need to be using substances to call NORS?

No, we have many people call who are looking for peer support, have questions about substance use, are concerned for family or friends or just calling to chat.
